Why I use ZeroBounce over NeverBounce for cold email lists

I've used both ZeroBounce and NeverBounce for cold email list cleaning across multiple agency clients. For a long time I assumed they were interchangeable. Then I ran a direct comparison on the same 10K list and the results actually shifted my workflow.

The test setup. I took a raw 10K list pulled from Apollo, split it in half, and ran 5K through ZeroBounce and 5K through NeverBounce. Then I ran both halves through the opposite tool as a cross check. Any email flagged invalid by both tools was definitely invalid. Any email flagged by only one tool was the interesting data point.

The numbers. ZeroBounce came in at 98.1 percent accuracy. NeverBounce at 97.3 percent. Sounds like a tiny difference until you do the math. On a 10K list, that 0.8 percent gap means ZeroBounce caught 140 more bad emails than NeverBounce. Those 140 emails would have bounced, each bounce damaging sender reputation on the inbox that sent it.

Why it matters for cold email at volume. If you're running 20 inboxes sending 15 emails per day, you're pushing 6,000 cold emails a month per campaign cycle. Even a 1 percent accuracy difference on list cleaning is 60 extra bounces. At that rate, you're crossing the 2 percent bounce threshold that tanks deliverability within a week. ZeroBounce's extra accuracy is literally the difference between healthy inboxes and dead ones.

Where NeverBounce wins. Pricing is slightly cheaper per verification and the bulk upload UI is a little cleaner. If you're doing low volume and accuracy at the last 1 percent doesn't matter much, NeverBounce is fine. For cold email at scale where every bounce matters to inbox reputation, ZeroBounce earns its small price premium.

My current stack: ZeroBounce for initial list cleaning before first send. Done. Accuracy matters more than saving a few dollars on verification when the cost of bad inboxes is measured in weeks of warmup.
