How many domains do you guys actually use? I feel like I am overdoing it

I have 18 domains for cold email. 3 inboxes per domain on PuzzleInbox. 54 total inboxes. My agency sends about 1,500 emails per day across 4 clients. Is 18 domains excessive?
From the replies: the general rule of thumb is 3 inboxes per domain, 15-20 emails per inbox per day. For 1,500 emails/day that means you need 75-100 inboxes across 25-33 domains. So 18 domains with 54 inboxes actually might not be enough if you want to stay at safe sending volumes.
The key principle: spread volume across many domains and inboxes rather than concentrating on a few. If one domain gets flagged, it does not take down your entire operation. PuzzleInbox makes this easy since they handle domain purchasing and DNS setup for all of them.

18 domains is not overdoing it at all for 1500 emails/day. I'd actually say you need more. we run 28 domains for about the same volume and haven't had any domain burns in 4 months. spreading the risk is the whole game

Rule of thumb we use: 3 inboxes per domain, 15 emails per inbox per day max. That means each domain handles 45 emails/day. For 1500/day you want ~33 domains minimum. 18 is cutting it thin honestly

the real question is are you buying similar-looking domains or completely different ones. seen agencies use variations like getacme acmehq tryacme and google sometimes flags the whole cluster. better to diversify domain names too not just quantity
