Bootstrapped SaaS founder here. Zero marketing budget means cold email or die.

My setup: 10 PuzzleInbox pre-warmed Google Workspace inboxes ($45/month), Instantly starter plan ($30), Apollo free tier. Total: $75 per month.

I targeted 500 prospects per month. Very narrow ICP: Series A B2B SaaS companies with 20-50 employees. Decision maker: Head of Growth or VP Marketing.

Month 1: 0.8% reply rate. Terrible copy. 2 meetings. 0 customers. Month 2: Rewrote everything based on feedback from this community. 2.5% reply rate. 8 meetings. 3 customers. Month 3: Added a case study email to my sequence. 4.1% reply rate. 14 meetings. 7 customers.

After 6 months: 20 paying customers. $8K MRR. All from cold email. Total investment: $450 in infrastructure over 6 months.

Cold email is the ultimate bootstrapper growth channel. The ROI is insane when you get the infrastructure and copy right.

the "quick question about [company]" template is still king in my testing. 5% reply rate average across 15+ campaigns. keeping it short and curiosity-driven works.

interesting data. my top performer is actually just the person's first name as the subject line. sounds dumb but consistently gets 4-6% reply rates. people can't resist opening an email that just says their name

I've found that subject lines barely matter compared to your sending reputation. if your infrastructure is solid (good DNS, proper warmup, 15-20 per inbox/day) even a mediocre subject line will land in the primary tab

anyone else test lowercase vs title case? I switched to all lowercase subject lines last quarter and my reply rates bumped up noticeably. feels more personal and less like marketing

for C-suite specifically, subject lines referencing their company or a specific initiative work best. generic ones get filtered by assistants. "saw [company]'s expansion into [market]" has been my top performer

good subject line data. one thing I'd add — always A/B test with at least 200 emails per variant before drawing conclusions. too many people test with 30 emails and think they have a winner
