Cold email reply rate benchmarks for 2026. Where do you stand?

revops_jess · 2026-03-08 · 1,120 views

Compiled reply rate data across my agency clients for 2026. Here is what good, average, and bad looks like so you can benchmark your own campaigns.

By infrastructure type:

By industry (on proper infrastructure):

What affects reply rates most:

  1. Infrastructure quality (biggest factor by far)
  2. Subject line
  3. Sender name and domain credibility
  4. Send timing
  5. List quality (sending to valid, active email addresses)

If your reply rates are below 50% on dedicated Google Workspace inboxes, something is wrong with your subject lines or your warmup is not complete. If you are below 30%, you likely have a fundamental infrastructure or DNS issue.

Note: open rates are completely unreliable as a metric due to Apple Mail Privacy Protection and other pixel-blocking features. Use reply rate as your north star metric instead.

the infrastructure type breakdown is the most useful part. I was on shared SMTP getting 32% opens and thought my copy was the problem. switched to dedicated Google Workspace and immediately hit 58% with the exact same emails. infrastructure is everything

totally agree that open rates are completely unreliable with Apple MPP and Gmail image caching. I've stopped looking at open rates entirely. reply rate is the only number that actually tells you if your outreach is working. everything else is vanity

Healthcare at 40-50% is interesting. I target healthcare admin and I'm at 47% which I thought was low. Glad to know that's actually within the expected range for the vertical. Different industries just have different engagement patterns.
